MUTJIKU, 18 JUN (NAMPA) - The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Kavango Region have opened an inquest docket after a couple allegedly suffocated their six-month-old baby to death whilst they were in a drunken slumber on top of the baby.
The incident occurred at the Mutjiku village, situated some 230km east of Rundu in the early morning hours of Monday.
NamPol?s Kavango Regional Crime Investigations? Co-ordinator, Deputy Commissioner Willie Bampton told Nampa on Tuesday that the baby?s 23-year-old mother and 28-year-old father claim they were intoxicated when they went to sleep on Sunday evening, and were not aware that they were sleeping on top of the baby.
Bampton said the parents only discovered their dead baby on Monday morning.
No arrests have been made, but police investigations into the incident continue.
