WINDHOEK, 17 JUN (NAMPA) - The Namibian Manufacturers? Association (NMA)?s ?Manufacturer of the Year? awards ceremony and gala dinner will take place here on Thursday night.
The event is aimed at acknowledging and honouring the NMA?s paid-up members.
NMA Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ronnie Varkevisser told Nampa on Monday the event will be one of the biggest awards ceremonies in the manufacturing industry.
?This awards ceremony is to acknowledge NMA members? achievements to inspire them to greater heights and to thank them for a manufacturing industry Namibia can be proud of,? he said.
He said 35 entries were received for the competition, which will honour the best manufacturer in the country.
This is the first time since its inception in 1994 that the NMA members are given the opportunity to participate in a project where members can showcase their abilities in a choice of six different categories with pre-determined criteria.
Members who demonstrate leadership, business and product excellence, sustainability in manufacturing, as well as those who make a difference in the public perception of manufacturing in Namibia can enter the competition.
The categories will include NMA Corporate Manufacturer of the Year; Small and Medium Enterprise Manufacturer; New Manufacturer; Innovator and Designer; Ambassador for Manufacturing; and Most Environmentally Friendly Manufacturer of the Year.
Three winners will be announced in each category, and the judges will select the overall winner, which will get the title of ?NMA Manufacturer of the Year?.
In addition to the awards, winners will receive certificates.
The Minister of Trade and Industry, Calle Schlettwein will open the event, while the guest speaker, international scenario planner Clem Sunter will deliver the keynote address on ?The World and Southern Africa beyond 2013 - The latest scenarios, flags and probabilities and the implications on the manufacturing industry?.
Winner of the South African Idols 2012 competition, Khaya Mthethwa will provide the entertainment during the event.
The NMA is an association not for gain and represents a total of 142 members.
The associationfacilitates a sustainable, competitive and prosperous manufacturing industry for all stakeholders. Originally founded in 1994 by a group of manufacturers in the capital, it represents and promotes manufacturers products.
It was transformed into a Section 21 Company in 2002.
The event will take place at the Nampower Convention Centre.
