NamPol employee arrested for alleged theft of dockets

WALVIS BAY, 17 JUN (NAMPA) - A 28-year-old woman employed in the Criminal Investigations? Department of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) here appeared in the Walvis Bay Magistrate?s Court on charges of theft on Monday.
Christaline von Broen appeared before Magistrate Vicky Nicolaidis after she was arrested on Saturday in connection with the alleged disappearance of dockets containing information on criminal cases which are being investigated by NamPol.
The accused was denied bail, and the case was postponed to 11 July this year for further police investigations, as well as for the accused to obtain legal representation.
According to NamPol?s Crime Investigations? Co-ordinator for the Erongo Region, Deputy Commissioner Ottilie Kashuupulwa, a trap was set by the police to catch the alleged perpetrator in the matter of the ?disappearing? dockets.
She indicated that the trap led to the arrest of Von Broen, who is employed as a secretary by NamPol.
Kashuupulwa could, however, not provide more information about the matter at this stage as it is still being investigated.
Von Broen remains in police custody.
