WINDHOEK, 02 MAR (NAMPA) - Former DTA of Namibia leader Katuutire Kaura has apologised to the party and its leadership after an extra-ordinary executive committee meeting held on Thursday found him guilty on various charges.
Last month during a media conference, DTA president McHenry Venaani announced that the partys management committee resolved to nullify the resolutions of the extra-ordinary executive committee on 01 February 2014 to terminate Kauras membership of the party and to recall him from the National Assembly (NA).
Kaura was recalled for allegedly causing division in the party and bringing it into disrepute.
He then sought a court interdict to stop Venaani from replacing him in Parliament, and to contest his dismissal from the party.
The DTA made a choice not to oppose the urgent application brought before the High Court by Kaura in this regard and instead decided to settle the matter out of court as according to Venaani, their lawyers misrepresented the partys leadership and did not do their work properly.
Kaura was then asked to appear for a trial at an extraordinary executive committee meeting and was found guilty on charges of insubordination, incitement of factionalism, promoting divisiveness and bringing the DTA into disrepute.
The meeting also resolved that he should tender a public apology within three working days and failure to do so would see him recalled from the NA.
Kaura however accepted his guilt and gave the party assurance of a public apology.
In his apology issued on Friday, Kaura said he was abiding by the decision of the Executive Committee and thus publicly apologises to the partys National Executive Committee, as well as the party leadership throughout the country for his public utterances and behaviour, which he said was uncalled for.
I humbly put members fears at rest that I commit myself to work in the greater interest of our party and society. Leadership values are to admit mistakes done and move ahead, thus my apology is sincere and I wish to bring the political bickering in the DTA to an end, Kaura said.
He also called upon all DTA members to focus their attention on mobilising the party towards the elections, before stating that his role towards helping the party towards desirable results will be seen in due course.
Let us walk the talk of unity and I thank you, my colleagues, for accepting this apology, he said.
