ONDANGWA, 16 JUN (NAMPA) ? Deputy Minister of Education, Silvia Makgone on Friday conducted her first-ever inauguration of a school at Ondangwa in the Oshana Region, and encouraged the school?s principal, teachers and learners to aim at education distinction.
President Hifikepunye Pohamba appointed Makgone as Deputy Minister of Education in March this year.
?It is the principal, teachers and learners who will breathe life into the buildings and transform it into an institution of pride, joy and achievements to be celebrated by all stakeholders,? Makgone said during the inauguration of the Ondangwa Junior Secondary School (JSS).
The inauguration of the Ondangwa JSS was co-hosted with the Oshana Education Directorate?s awards-giving function to learners, schools and teachers who performed well in last year?s Grades 10 and 12 final examinations, and in recognition of the directorate?s retired principals, teachers and support staff.
The three-in-one event took place at the Ondangwa JSS, as one of the schools which produced satisfactory results in the final Grade 10 examinations last year.
?You, Ondangwa JSS, are on the right track, and I would like to congratulate you on your good performance. Keep it up,? Makgone urged.
She went on to say as a new school in the Oshana Education Directorate, the Ondangwa JSS might not have all the necessary resources.
?But, this should not deter you from working hard and improving your performance. Remember, success attracts resources, because everyone wants to be associated with success,? the deputy minister said.
She said it is much easier to motivate for more resources when something is achieved against all odds, than to find resources for people who are apathetic and have poor performances as result of lack of resources.
?We trust you will all take good care of the facilities for it to serve the region and the nation for future generations,? said Makgone.
Chairperson of the Oshana Regional Council Lot Kuushomwa, Ondangwa mayor Leonard Negonga and the Director of Education in the Oshana Region Dutte Shinyemba also attended the event.
