WINDHOEK, 16 JUN (NAMPA) - With temperatures plummeting in Namibia and many people struggling to keep warm, Round Table Namibia and Radio Wave 96.7 embarked upon their annual ?Winter Knights? campaign to collect money and blankets for those in need.
The campaign involves selling street corners to the corporate world for N.dollars 2 000 each in Windhoek and N.dollars 1 500 at the two coastal towns of Swakopmund and Walvis Bay, which the companies then brand with their corporate images, while collecting money and blankets from motorists.
Manus Grobler from Round Table Namibia told Nampa on Friday all monies raised and blankets collected will be distributed to the needy throughout the country within the next two to three weeks.
He said last year the Round Table, through its Winter Knights campaign, collected around N.dollars 600 000, which was used to buy blankets and soup that was then distributed to the needy across the country.
Grobler added that although most motorists? hearts are open, it is the taxi drivers who are more generous when it comes to giving money to the street collectors, who are either dressed as homeless people or in their corporate uniforms.
Round Table Namibia is an international organisation of professional young men who come together in both a professional and social capacity to build fellowship, have fun and give back to the community, especially the less fortunate.
