WINDHOEK, 26 FEB (NAMPA) - Namibian citizens aged 18 years and older who have not yet registered for their voters’ cards have until Sunday, when the general registration of voters ends, to do so.
The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) has therefore urged all eligible citizens to go out and register themselves at their nearest registration points in their constituencies.
The commission's corporate communications officer Vikitoria Hango said in a media statement issued on Wednesday a total of 974 545 people registered between 15 January and 22 February 2014 for the in-country registration process.
It has further registered about 2 619 eligible Namibians at designated registration points in diplomatic missions abroad, with the highest number of registrations recorded in Cape Town, South Africa. This brings the total number of registered voters to 977 164.
“The ECN is satisfied with the number of eligible Namibians registered to date,” she said.
Hango added that provision to register for those who did not manage to do so during the voter registration period, will be made during a supplementary registration period, the date of which will be announced at a later stage.
