WINDHOEK, 21 FEB (NAMPA) – About 800 kilogrammes of cannabis valued at about N.dollars 2.4 million was destroyed by the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) on Friday.
Several Mandrax tablets and crack cocaine to the value of about N.dollars 25 000 also went up in flames in an incinerator on a farm east of Windhoek.
Most of the drugs were seized in Windhoek and Rehoboth.
NamPol’s Criminal Investigation Directorate (CID) regularly destroys drugs after the related drug possession or dealing in drugs cases are finalised.
Commissioner Nicholas Endjala from the CID told reporters on Friday NamPol means business when it declared war on drugs.
“Drugs and the availability of drugs is really a problem in our society, and therefore we need the support of the Namibian public to get drugs off the streets,” he appealed.
The police have a zero tolerance on drugs this year, the commissioner added.
Much more drugs are destined to be destroyed.
