ONDANGWA, 17 FEB (NAMPA) – Love Conquers, a group made up of couples in Ondangwa, hosted its first-ever gala dinner at a local lodge in celebration of Valentine’s Day on Friday evening.
The group, consisting of 16 couples, was established last month. The members are mostly local teachers and public service employees.
The councillor of the Ondangwa Constituency, Kaushi Abraham, and the Mayor of Ondangwa, Leonard Negonga, also attended the dinner.
One of the organisers of the event, Chicken Kanime told those present that Love Conquers hopes to host a gala dinner on Valentine’s Day every year.
“The purpose is to foster unity among couples in Ondangwa and to bring husbands and their wives together to interact and share their experiences,” Kanime, who was the director of the function, explained.
Reverend Kakeke Shaanika of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Namibia (ELCIN) was the main speaker at the event, and said mutual trust should be the order of the day amongst married couples.
Shaanika also wants to see couples avoiding extramarital affairs at all costs.
“Adopt a culture of giving each other gifts, no matter how small it is,” he said.
Love Conquers' chairperson, Walde Shapaka said the group welcomes other couples, married or unmarried, living in Ondangwa.
