Three die in accident on Tsumeb-Oshivelo road

WINDHOEK, 16 FEB (NAMPA) - Three people died on the Tsumeb-Oshivelo road on Saturday after a head-on collision between a minibus and a Volvo sedan.
The Head of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Public Relations Division, Deputy Commissioner Edwin Kanguatjivi said the accident occurred at around 20h00.
The minibus with Windhoek registration was driving in a northerly direction, while the Volvo, with Gobabis registration, had been on its way to Tsumeb. The driver of the minibus allegedly overtook another vehicle and collided head-on with the oncoming Volvo.
Thirteen occupants of the minibus, including the driver, sustained minor to serious injuries and one person died. The Volvo had three occupants, of which two died instantly. The driver sustained serious injuries.
The deceased have been identified as the 44-year-old Among Kautondokwa Shimhanda - who had been travelling in the minibus – as well as the 35-year-old Simon Ipinge and 19-year-old Anna Nakanduangile Nakanwe, who were both travelling in the Volvo.
All of the injured passengers were taken to hospitals in Tsumeb for treatment.
Meanwhile, a two-month-old baby girl was found dead in her mother's bed with a liquid substance emitting from her nose last Thursday.
Maria Nangula Nailoke Nehemia died at around 07h00 at Onaame Villiage.
In an unrelated incident, an 86-year-old woman collapsed and died allegedly after drinking tombo at a shebeen at Onamugulo village on Thursday at around 12h00.
The deceased has been identified as Victoria Gideon.
Her next of kin have been informed and an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
Kanguatjivi also reported that the Onesmus Ndeiweda Nangolo, 33, died after he allegedly hanged himself with a belt from a tree on Friday.
The incident occurred at Okakwa village in the Ohangwena Region.
No suicide note was left behind and no foul play is suspected.
In the Zambezi Region, a two-year-old girl was found dead in the bushes along Makaravan-West on Friday.
Her body was found at around 18h00 and preliminary investigations indicate that she may have been raped and killed.
A 29-year-old male has been arrested and will appear in the Katima Mulilo Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
