GROOTFONTEIN, 10 JUN (NAMPA) - A 10-year-old girl was allegedly raped behind the Luiperdheuwel Primary School at Grootfontein on Friday afternoon.
The girl had been walking back home from school using a footpath at around 14h00 when an unknown man grabbed her and forced her into the bushes, where he allegedly raped her.
The Namibian Police Force (NamPol)?s Otjozondjupa Regional Crime Investigations? Co-ordinator, Deputy Commissioner Moses Khairabeb said in an interview with Nampa on Monday that the girl sustained injuries to her private parts.
The victim told her mother of the incident when she got home.
?Her mother opened a rape case under CR no. 14/06/2013 at the Grootfontein Police Station on Friday,? the top cop said.
The girl was taken to the Grootfontein State Hospital for medical attention.
No arrests have been made in connection with the incident so far, and police investigations continue.
Khairabeb thus urged residents and local authorities in the region to clear the bushes in their towns in order to minimise crimes like rape, assault and the snatching of handbags from women who make use of footpaths.
