WINDHOEK, 14 FEB (NAMPA) - A security guard was beaten up by armed robbers during an armed robbery at the Uukwamatsi bar in Windhoek’s Havana residential area on Thursday.
Four suspects - three men and one woman - were arrested in connection with the robbery on Friday morning.
The suspects are alleged to have robbed the bar some time after 21h00.
According to the Namibian Police Force (NamPol)'s Khomas Regional Commander, Desiderius Shilunga, it is suspected that the woman - who works in the bar - provided inside information to her boyfriend, who was one of the arrested suspects.
The suspects reportedly entered the bar which belongs to a prominent local businessman earlier on Thursday night and bought drinks. As the bar was closing they however pulled out their weapons and robbed the workers at the bar.
“They had two firearms and a knife,” Shilunga said.
The suspects got away with N.dollars 29 000 in cash as well as an undisclosed amount of money which they took from a gambling machine at the bar.
Shilunga said the three male suspects claimed that they “were given a tender” by their female counterpart to rob the bar where she works.
The suspects had with them cell phones, caps which they used to cover their faces, jackets, and other items which were used during the robbery.
“These are the most wanted criminals when it comes to armed robberies and housebreaking,” he said.
NamPol and the City Police used information obtained through intelligence-led operations and surveillance cameras that were in the bar to arrest the suspects.
The security guard was rushed to the Katutura State Hospital for medical attention.
