ONGWEDIVA, 14 FEB (NAMPA) – Another young woman was hacked to death by her boyfriend in the Otamanzi Constituency of the Omusati Region on Thursday evening.
This is the third passion killing taking place in northern Namibia within two weeks, following the decapitation of Mirjam Tuyakula Nandjato, 24, by her boyfriend at Oshakati on 04 February; and Martha Dishena, 30, who was stabbed to death by her boyfriend at the Oshihau village of Onesi Constituency in the Omusati Region on 31 January.
The latest incident took place at the Etilyasa village at about 23h00 on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as 28-year-old Helena Shivute.
Sergeant Hesekiel Hamalwa of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the region told Nampa on Friday morning that the suspect used a panga and an axe to hack the deceased in the head several times.
Shivute died on the spot.
The suspect is on the run.
The incident is said to have taken place inside the bedroom of the late Shivute in her parents’ homestead, following a quarrel between her and the suspect.
Hamalwa pointed out that Shivute and the suspect have a four-year-old son together.
It is believed that the son was asleep in the same bedroom at the time.
