WINDHOEK, 13 FEB (NAMPA) - Namibian boxer Pohamba 'The President' Mandume will defend his Namibian Welterweight title in a rematch against Tommy 'The Lion' Hango in March this year.
Mandume won the title from Hango in Walvis Bay last May on points.
Kinda Boxing Promotions is organising the fight set for 08 March at the Windhoek Country Club Resort and Casino.
Boxing promoter Kinda Nangolo said although no sponsor has yet come on board, the boxing bonanza will take place as scheduled.
He appealed to the nation to come out in big numbers to support the boxers on that night, and also to financially support the boxing academy.
On his part, Mandume said he is ready for the fight.
“I will prepare well for it, and I know that title will remain mine,” he said.
Mandume holds a record of 12 fights of which he won five, drew two and lost five, while Hango hold a record of 18 fights - 12 wins and six defeats.
Hango won the vacant national welterweight belt against Sacky Shikukutu in June 2012, but lost it to Pohamba last year.
In the non-title undercard bouts on the same night, Varde Ndayambekwa will square off against Kennedy Kamati, while Christian Uukelo will fight Phillip Swartbooi, and Niilo Costa Frans against Toivo Mukwendje in the Lightweight category.
Paulus Petrus and Lukas Mukete will fight in the Light welterweight category, while Mathew Kaandala will fight Mathew Chiimbi, and Johannes Kutumba will fight Shimuna David in the Featherweight category.
Amateur boxers Nangundu Dorian and Tangeni Neliwe will fight in the Bantamweight category.
Tickets will be on sale as from next week at a cost of N.dollars 200 per person and N.dollars 10 000 per table seating 10 people.
