Mobile Telecommunications (MTC)’s Netman 4G's television commercial took the runner-up prize at the 5th Annual AfricaCom 2012 Awards ceremony held in Cape Town, South Africa, last night.
The commercial had been shortlisted in what seemed to be the “group of death”; the Best Marketing Campaign category.
MTC managing director, Miguel Geraldes, who accepted the award on behalf of the mobile company, said, he was proud that MTC came tops ahead of all the mobile giants in that category, which had made the competition tough.
Prominent and successful digital media company, Prezence Digital, emerged as the winner in this category. Competing against mobile companies like Orange and Emirates Telecommunications Corporation (Etisalat) that had also been shortlisted in the same category is a remarkable achievement for MTC, Geraldes beamed.
“This award is not just for MTC but it speaks volumes about the creativity of the Namibian people and we are happy to accept this on behalf of the Namibian people and our creative team,” Geraldes said.
AfricaCom Awards’ Emily Martyr, said, competition was fierce this year with a record number of entries up by 60% on last year's, which in itself, was a bumper year.
“The quality and number of entries into these awards are a testament to the importance of this sector across Africa,” she said.
The annual AfricaCom Conference is Africa’s premier annual telecoms, media and information and communication technology (ICT) forum through which exhibitions and the awards are a true celebration of vision and progress in the African telecoms industry.
